ADVANCED TRAINING
IN OPEN AND ENDOSCOPIC NEUROSURGERY

A hands-on skull base training program in the heart of downtown Chicago, Illinois

Agenda

This comprehensive, three-day course is designed for both novice and experienced surgeons, residents and fellows. James Chandler, MD, and the Skull Base team will teach by didactic presentations, 3D and VR anatomy demonstrations and guided cadaveric dissection.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Review the surgical approaches (open and endoscopic) for complex, skull base pathologies.

  • Recognize the advantages of a team-based approach for managing pre-, peri- and postoperative skull base pathologies.

  • Demonstrate proficient endoscopic instrument handling and performing standard open skull base approaches.

  • Master minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal
    approaches to the sellar and peri-sellar area through
    advanced orbital-zygomatic craniotomy.

  • Identify complex skull base pathologies.

Target Audience

Neurosurgery and otolaryngology residents, fellows, and attendings.

PREVIOUS PROGRAMS

In 2019 and 2020, the Advanced Training Program was held in the Northwestern Skull Base Lab Resident Training facilities. The response was overwhelming, and as this program grows, we will be hosting it in the Northwestern Simulation facilities to make room for more participants.
