This comprehensive, three-day course is designed for both novice and experienced surgeons, residents, and fellows. Dr. James Chandler and Dr. Robert Kern will teach alongside leading Skull Base experts via didactic presentations, 3D and VR anatomy demonstrations, real-world case studies, and guided cadaveric dissections.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Review the surgical approaches (open and endoscopic) for complex, skull base pathologies.

Recognize the advantages of a team-based approach for managing pre-, peri- and postoperative skull base pathologies.

Demonstrate proficient endoscopic instrument handling and performing standard open skull base approaches.

Master minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal approaches to the sellar and peri-sellar area through advanced orbital-zygomatic craniotomy.

Identify complex skull base pathologies.

The Advanced Training Program began in the Northwestern Skull Base Lab Resident Training facilities in 2019. The overwhelmingly positive response over the years has driven us to expand the program to accommodate more participants and transition to the Northwestern Simulation facilities. As the field of skull base surgery continues to evolve, we remain committed to updating our curriculum to ensure our course offerings reflect the latest advancements and best practices in the field.
